Headlines 9am: Pakistan hope to bounce back in second Test

- Pakistan is celebrating its 74th Independence Day today. People across the country started the day with the zeal and zest of independence. Special prayers were offered for the well-being and progress of the country in mosques after the Fajr prayers. A 31-gun salute was presented to the country in Islamabad. In Karachi, Peshawar, and Lahore, a 21-gun salute was presented.
- The Pakistan Naval Academy cadets assumed ceremonial guard duty at the mausoleum to mark the Independence Day celebrations. The young men paid tribute to founder Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. A ceremony was also held at the tomb of Allam Iqbal.
- Israel and the UAE agreed Thursday to normalise relations in a landmark US-brokered deal under which the Jewish state would halt further annexation of Palestinian territory. American President Donald Trump played key-role in the deal. Establishing diplomatic ties between Israel and Washington’s Middle East allies, including the wealthy conservative monarchies, is a key goal of Trump’s strategy in the region.
- In the second Test match between Pakistan and England, the national cricket team will continue the game with 126 runs and 5 wickets. Babar Azam and Rizwan will be at the crease when the game begins. On the first day of the match, Pakistani batsmen did not perform well. Asad Shafeeq and Fawad Alam couldn’t score a single run, while Abid Ali scored 60 runs.
